South Lyon is a town in southwestern Oakland county in metro Detroit. The town was founded in 1832 and was originally called Thompson’s Corners with the surrounding township being named Lyon township. South Lyon was throughout it’s history a railroad town with three main lines passing through at one point. The Witch’s Hat Depot Museum and Historic Village archives the history of the area. South Lyon also hosts Pumpkinfest the last weekend September which features rides, games, a 5k run, a parade through town, arts and crafts show and numerous exhibits and contests.
