Belleville is a city in western Wayne county and is also used for the mailing address for the surrounding area, Van Buren Township. In 1926 the Detroit Edison Company, now known as DTE, built a dam on the Huron River for generating more power and created Edison Lake (It’s actual name). The lake is almost 6 miles long and covers 1200 acres. After the lakes creation the city became a resort town with wealthy citizens of nearby Detroit such as Henry Ford having cottages on the water. Belleville has restaurants in the downtown which can be accessed by boats on the lake and are a popular destination in the summer months. The city is also host to the National Strawberry Festival which happens on Father’s Day every year. It is also the sister city of Machynlleth, Wales.
