Dexter, Michigan is a small city located to the northwest of Ann Arbor on the banks of the Huron River. The river drove much of the industry in the town early on and drove a sawmill, a grist mill, a woolen mill and eventually a cider mill. The location close to Ann Arbor and highly rated schools turned it into a desirable destination for families. A building boom from 2000 to 2010 increased the population of Dexter nearly 75% and much more development has followed since the great recession. An outdoor lifestyle is prized in this city, the Border to Border trail, kayaking on the Huron and even a Dexter-Ann Arbor half marathon keeps residents active. A charming downtown features many restaurants and even a small town hardware store with nearly everything you’d possibly need.
